This is the family devotional for Week 3 of WorshipLife. Please adapt this devotional to work best for your family.
Say this week’s memory verse together: As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more.
– 2 Corinthians 3:18b (NLT)
Ask: Think about who is your best friend. How did you get to be best friends? Were you best friends the first time you met or did it take some time to become best friends? What is your friend like? What does he or she like to do and where does he or she like to go?
Say: You know these things about your friends because you spend time with them, you watch them, you talk to them a lot and they talk to you. Do you know God wants us to know Him like that? He wants to become our very best friend.
Ask: What are some ways we can get to know God better? (Lead to them to iden- tify these: Bible reading, praying, listening to our parents, paying attention in small groups and in church services, participating in church worship times, taking notes of the sermon, being still and listening) (Option: Have everyone draw pictures of ways we can know God better.)
Ask: The more we get to know God, the more like Him we will become. Have you noticed how you and your best friend say some of the same things? You pick up little habits and phrases from them, don’t you?
Say: In the same way, as you spend time with God, you begin to think more like He does and like the same things He does. You begin to reflect God’s glory! Getting to know God begins with meeting Jesus and asking Him into our hearts. Jesus wants to first be our Savior and Lord, so He can then become our very best friend.
(Option: Here you may want to ask if anyone wants to meet Jesus by asking Him to be their Savior. If so, carefully step him or her through the plan of salvation, which is explained in the last paragraph on page 38.)
Prayer: Father God, we want to get to know You more and more and more. Help us read the Bible and pray and listen closely for You to speak to us this week. Thank You for wanting to be our best friend as well as our Lord and King.
