Pray for Rick Warren & His Wife
Last night I received a second letter from Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church. He sent it to those on his PurposeDriven.com mailing list, people who (for the most part!) support the tremendous ministry God has raised up through him and his team. (Read entire letter here.)
Based on the contents of this letter, he and his family are clearly under great personal duress at this time. His wife, Kay, is battling cancer. And on top of that difficult trial, now some bloggers have apparently attacked Rick’s motives – and thus his character – about his P.E.A.C.E efforts with churches in Syria. (Rick’s Peace Plan is to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick and educate the next generation.) Rather than doing their homework and stating only the facts, they jumped to their own conclusions about some remarks he made to the Syrian government.
In this most recent letter Rick emphatically states his ultimate objective: “We all need Jesus! Left or Right is irrelevant to me. I’m not a politician. I am a pastor, and my calling is to go ‘to ALL nations and ALL people’ with the saving knowledge of Jesus.” – Now that’s a goal I can live with and should strive for myself!
Yea, I’m a worship leader, and this blogsite is dedicated primarily to worship helps. But sometimes you just gotta take a stand. That said, here’s one blogger that chooses NOT to make accusations and unverified remarks against a fellow brother and man of God. Furthermore, I don’t have time to waste on hearsay from people who seem to enjoy stirring up strife. (Besides, I’d hate to stand before God one day knowing I pre-judged one of God’s anointed!)
We may not understand and always agree with Pastor Rick, but rather than air our frustrations and confusions publicly, our first responsibility is to intercede for him before the Throne in prayer. Let’s talk about him first on our knees before we type about him – or any other believer for that matter – on our websites!

Great word! Pastor Rick serves to remind all Christians (especially pastors) that while we must make a stand in the political arena, we are not to be political. Thanks for the stand Dwayne.
