Hang On
by Christopher Tippins
Some days you may feel like you’re hanging on for dear life. Keep hanging on! But also… let go. Let go of trying to control. Let go of trying to keep it all together. Let go of managing everything on your own.
There is a popular message lately which says, “You can do it! You are enough!” But we are not enough. We need divine intervention and we need to be able to admit it. Jesus didn’t come for the well. He came for the sick; the ones who know they don’t have it all together.
In this day, when self is promoted, it seems contrary to look outside of yourself for answers or help. But Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient. My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) This doesn’t take away our responsibility for grateful obedience and faithful discipline. What it means is we do not have to muster up the strength on our own because the same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives in us! (Romans 8:11) So be weak. Be needy apart from Christ. Keep holding on but be wise about what you are holding on to. We can let go of the “I’ve got this” mentality and rest in the fact that God has got this.
